Unlike many other conversions, this style cannot provide you with any additional headspace and therefore is most suitable for properties which already have a reasonable amount of existing head height. Velux conversions are also permitted in conservation areas, offering a solution where options are limited.

Will I Need Planning Permission?

In most cases, you shouldn’t need planning permission for this type of conversion, as it falls under the ‘permitted development’ regulations. However, planning permission is often required for Velux lofts if the property is located within a conservation area. When this is the case, sometimes this can affect the possibilities of the amount of Velux windows that are allowed and the locations that they are permitted on the roof.
